Scadding Criteria

  • The Scadding Criteria are used to stage pulmonary sarcoidosis based on chest radiographic findings1
  • Scadding Criteria
    • Stage 0 → Normal chest radiograph
    • Stage I → Intrathoracic adenopathy only.
    • Stage II → Intrathoracic adenopathy and parenchymal disease.
    • Stage III → Parenchymal disease only.
    • Stage IV → End-stage lung disease (pulmonary fibrosis).
  • Some studies show that the Scadding criteria (based on chest radiographs) may underestimate the extent of disease compared to CT imaging, and may not correlate particularly well with the severity of symptoms.2
