Mikulicz Cells

  • Mikulicz cells are large vacuolated histiocytes that are classically seen in the granulomatous stage of Rhinoscleroma.1
  • The causative organism of rhinoscleroma is Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis.
  • 3 clinical stages of Rhinoscleroma:
    1. Catarrhal stage (also known as atrophic)
    2. Granulomatous stage (also known as hypertrophic)
    3. Fibrotic stage (also known as sclerotic or cicatrical).
