- The Lund-Mackay score is a commonly used way of performing radiologic staging of chronic rhinosinusitis.
- While the Lund-Mackay score does not correlate with subjective symptom scores, it does correlate well with the extent of surgery required, the degree of post-operative symptomatic improvement, and the likelihood of requiring revision surgery.
- The score varies from 0-24, and assigns points (0-2) based on involvement of 6 areas of the paranasal sinuses on both the left and right hand side:
- Ostiomeatal Complex (0 or 2)
- Anterior Ethmoids (0, 1, 2)
- Posterior Ethmoids (0, 1, 2)
- Sphenoid Sinus (0, 1, 2)
- Frontal Sinus (0, 1, 2)
- Maxillary Sinus (0, 1, 2)

- The score for each location is assigned as:
- 0: Not opacified
- 1: Partially opacified
- 2: Completely opacified
- The only exception is the ostiomeatal complex, which is assigned a score of 0 if not obstructed, versus 2 if obstructed (you can’t have a score of 1 for the OMC).
