- The Hayes Martin Maneuver is a surgical maneuver used to protect the marginal mandibular nerve during dissection in level IB.
- It involves ligation of the posterior facial vein and reflection of the investing fascia upwards to preserve the marginal mandibular nerve (which lies within this fascia).
- The peri-facial lymph nodes remain undissected with this maneuver so this is more commonly used with benign disease.
