Bolger Classification of Maxillary Sinus Hypoplasia
- Bolger et al (1990) classified maxillary sinus hypoplasia into one of 3 types:
- Type 1:
- Mild maxillary sinus hypoplasia with a normal uncinate process and a patent infundibular tract.
- Type 2:
- Mild to significant maxillary sinus hypoplasia with a hypoplastic or aplastic uncinate process.
- The infundibular passage is ill defined or absent.
- In these cases, the maxillary sinus is completely opacified by soft tissue density.
- Type 3:
- Profound maxillary sinus hypoplasia with an absent uncinate process.
- In these cases, the sinus is represented only by a shallow cleft in the lateral nasal wall.
